Networking

Like its file system, Windows95's network support has a layered structure. In Windows3.1 networking is restricted to a single network, but in Windows95 concurrent connections to multiple network are supported. All the network requests from applications via API are received by MPR ( Multiple Provider Router) on the highest layer, and then MPR dispatches these requests to the Network Provider. There are some intermediate layers, and finally the Network adapter driver is attached to each physical network hardware. Using this layered networking Windows95 supports various protocols such as IPX/SPX (Novell NetWare), TCP/IP (Unix), NetBEUI (WindowsNT), and PPP (Internet connection over telephone lines) and integrates many computing and networking resources currently available.
